Watch SCAT
Programs on SCAT can be seen on both the Comcast and RCN cable systems on Channel 3 in Somerville. Some programs are archived on the Web for on-demand viewing. SCAT cablecasts programming from the satellite network, Free Speech TV, including the alternative news program, Democracy Now!
SCAT makes an extra effort to address the media needs of immigrants, youth and non-profits in Somerville. The immigrant community is very active at SCAT. 32% of our series programming is in a language other than English. There are numerous religious programs on the Channel in Portuguese, Spanish, and Haitian Creole, and we have several cultural programs for the African and Middle Eastern communities.
SCAT’s staff-facilitated programs provide a forum for local organizations to disseminate important information and allow for discussion of local issues. They include “Talking About Somerville” (local non-profits take turns presenting), “Active Aging” (produced with the Council on Aging), and “Welcome Wellness” (produced with Somerville Health Agenda). Several SCAT programs promote Somerville’s very active arts community. “Art@SCAT” features the current SCAT gallery artist, “Somerville Art Matters” discusses arts issues, and “UnionTube,” produced with the Arts Council, promotes arts events in Union Square.
Any Somerville resident may sponsor a program on Channel 3 by signing a cablecast request form that states that they accept responsibility for the show content. Programs must be delivered on DVD. For more information about SCAT programming, contact SCAT’s Programming Coordinator.
