TV Production Internship

Hours per week: Minimum 10 hours/week, Unpaid, College credit optional

Job Description Summary: Assist in the production of short documentary-style programs about Somerville, public service announcements and studio productions for cablecast on SCAT Channel 3. May also involves coverage of community events and assisting with media classes.. This internship is an excellent opportunity to improve video production skills and develop a resume reel of video projects.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff to develop program ideas and production schedule
  • Research topic and create production plan
  • Operate SCAT camera, audio and lighting equipment during field shoots.
  • Scriptwriting
  • Edit programs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist with SCAT studio productions

General Job Requirements: Some experience with video production, including camera, audio, lighting. Some nonlinear editing with Final Cut Express or iMovie preferred. Well organized, self-motivated, and good writing skills.

Education and/or Experience: Video production and/or journalism experience, organization and writing skills.

Language Skills: English. Additional ability to speak Creole, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.

Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.

Web Video Internship

Hours per week: Minimum 10 hours/week, Two evenings/week 4:00-9:00pm. Unpaid, College credit optional

Job Description Summary: Post community-produced video on the Web using Mac computers, free video posting websites, and the SCAT Drupal site. Students will design new vlogging sites and assist members with posting their videos. Assist with video production in the studio and field.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Post video files on the Web
  • Produce promotional and community service programs for the channel and Web
  • Assist staff with design of community bulletin board messages
  • Update the SCAT website
  • Other duties as assigned

General Job Requirements: Basic knowledge of video files, Mac OSX, web posting, Final Cut software. Ability to communicate well with SCAT's diverse members, good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and/or Experience: college media classes or experience..

Language Skills: English. Additional ability to speak Creole, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.

Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.
