Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking

Burgeoning filmmakers often shoot hours and hours of great footage – and then have no idea what to do next. Freelance filmmaker Lynn Weissman will flesh out what steps to take after shooting to help streamline the creative, intense, and often overwhelming process of video editing. The 7 steps are: 1) Window Dubbing, 2) Transcription/Logging, 3) Culling Your Gems, 4) Storyline and Structure, 5) Themes, 6) Script Development/The Paper Edit, 7) Script Completion.

Lynn Weissman freelances as a producer-director, cinematographer, and editor through her company, Weisswoman Productions. She holds two master’s degrees: one in Philanthropy and Media from Suffolk University and another in Public Health from UMass Amherst. Lynn’s documentary videos have won several awards, aired on public and cable television, and screened at festivals and events nationwide and in Canada.
