Video Production Internship

Hours per week: Minimum 10 hours/week, Unpaid, College credit optional

Job Description Summary: Assist in the production of short documentary-style programs about Somerville, public service announcements and studio productions for cablecast on SCATV Channel 3. May also involves coverage of community events, assisting with media classes, and posting video on the Web. This internship is an excellent opportunity to improve video production skills and develop a resume reel of video projects.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff to develop program ideas and production schedule
  • Research topic and create production plan
  • Operate SCATV camera, audio and lighting equipment during field shoots.
  • Scriptwriting
  • Edit programs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist with SCATV studio productions

General Job Requirements: Some experience with video production, including camera, audio, lighting. Some nonlinear editing with Final Cut Express preferred. Well organized, self-motivated, and good writing skills.

Education and/or Experience: Video production and/or journalism experience, organization and writing skills.

Language Skills: English. Additional ability to speak Creole, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.

Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.

Radio Internship

Boston Free Radio is an independent, member-run radio station reaching out to the world through online streaming on the Internet. Boston Free Radio promotes freedom of speech and accepts programming of all types, in any language. Holding true to our commitment to freedom of speech, we give our radio DJs 100% control over their programs. Your music. Your voice. Your station. 

Job Title: Radio Production Intern                        Supervised by: Boston Free Radio staff

Hours per week: Minimum 5 hrs/wk        Job grade level:  Intern, Unpaid. 

College Credit: Optional

Job Description Summary: Produce a one-hour radio program once a week, of any format.  Produce short documentary-style radio programs of interest to Boston, on such topics as immigrant issues, urban youth, and local arts activities for a local music and issues program.  Assist Boston Free Radio members and staff with their radio programs.  This internship is an excellent opportunity to improve radio production skills and develop a resume of radio projects.

 Principal Responsibilities:

 

·       Produce a one-hour radio program once a week

·       Produce community-oriented, documentaries, promotions, and/or news stories.

·       Work with staff to produce radio shows in the field and in the Boston Free Radio studio

·       Some editing with Sony Sound Forge

·       Other duties as assigned

General Job Requirements: Well-organized, self-motivated, and good writing skills.

Qualification Requirements:

Language Skills:  English. Additional ability to speak Creole, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.

Technical Skills: Some proficiency with Sony Sound Forge or other audio editing software and with portable audio recorders preferred.

Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.

VIDEO ARCHIVE INTERNSHIP

Somerville Community Access Television (SCATV) is a membership-based, non-profit organization operating a public access cable television channel. It provides training, equipment and facilities to community members for the production and distribution of community oriented television programs.

SCATV has a collection of video programs going back to 1985 on ¾” cassettes, SVHS, miniDV, and DVD. The programs are a valuable record of the beginning of cable TV, Somerville history, video art, local and national politics, arts, and culture.
 

Job Title: Video Archive Intern

Supervised by: SCATV Executive Director

Hours per week: 10 hours/week minimum. Job grade level: Intern, Unpaid. College Credit

Job Description Summary: Intern will work with the Executive Director to migrate video programs to digital formats on hard drives, organize and update the program database, upload files to a Web archive site for universal access to the material. The collection consists of approximately 600 programs.

This project offers the intern a unique opportunity to create a complete video archive.
General Job Requirements: Working knowledge of video archiving techniques, digital video formats, and database management. Good organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Education and/or Experience: In college or graduate school, or post college.
Language Skills: English.
