Portable Production/Editing

Basic Editing in Portuguese

This four session class is for SCAT members and non-members who wish to learn editing in Portuguese. The class will teach students to organize their projects and edit video footage in the SCAT edit suites using Final Cut Express software. It includes graphics, transitions, filters, and audio sweetening. Students who are SCAT members are certified to use SCAT edit suites after completing a short certification tape that demonstrates editing competency.  This is a special workshop.

Basic Portable Equipment in Portuguese

This class is for SCAT members and non-members who prefer to learn in Portuguese. Learn to use SCAT's professional digital video cameras, audio equipment, and light kits in the field. Following the three-session class, SCAT members will have one month to take out the cameras and shoot a certification tape that demonstrates competency with the equipment. This is a special workshop.
Tuition is $20 for SCAT members, $75 non-members.

Intermediate Editing with Final Cut Express

This course will build on what you know about Final Cut Express and make you more comfortable using its many features. Learn more about trimming edits and transitions, creating titiles and effects, working with off-line clips, keyframing, file typles, key commands, shortcuts, and more.

Portable Lighting

This one-session workshop is required for field producers who want to take out SCAT's portable light kits. It will cover three-point lighting, care and use of the lighting elements, and how to avoid lighting pitfalls. This class will make your field productions look like a pros.

Basic Portable Equipment

In this hands-on class, Students will learn camera operation, audio techniques, and the basics of lighting in the field. The group will brainstorm project ideas and will be encouraged to work together to shoot field footage. Students will have one month after the instruction sessions to take out the cameras and get familiar with the equipment. During that time, any questions that arise will be answered by the instructor. After completing the class and at least two practice sessions, the student becomes “camera-certified” and may take out the cameras for TV projects.

Advanced Editing with Final Cut Pro

This class is for Final Cut Express editors who have edited at least one program for cablecast. Building on their Express skills, students learn to edit with the professional Apple software, Final Cut Pro. Batch digitize, advanced graphics, and multilayer editing.

One completed Final Cut Express project submitted for cablecast on SCAT and footage for a new project to be edited on Final Cut Pro.
