Facilities & Equipment

SCATV provides video equipment and facilities free of charge to members to use for programs on Channel 3.

Portable Production gear includes:

  • 2 Sony VX 2100 miniDV camcorders
  • 1 Panasonic AG-HMC 150 AVCHD camcorder
  • 2 Sony HDR FX7 miniDV camcorders (user manual attached below)
  • 1 Sony HVR A1U miniDV camcorder (brochure attached below)
  • 1 Panasonic AG-DVC20 mini-DV camcorder
  • tripods
  • varied microphones
  • portable monitors
  • lighting kits

Studio production facilities include:
TV studio (26’ X 33’, height: 11.5’) with 3 JVC GY-HD250U HiDef/standard cameras, a 50” plasma display monitor, full light grid and control room with mastering to DV, SVHS, DVD, hard drive, and live cablecast. Compix graphics, playback from DV, SVHS, DVD, and hard drive. Set pieces available for member use are black, blue, and chromagreen curtains, and a collection of flats and furniture.

A host-operated TV studio for live or taped talk shows with Compix graphics and roll-ins from DV and DVD. Record to DV or DVD.

Members must become certified to use the equipment and facilities by either taking the appropriate classes or “testing out” with a staff person.

Editing Equipment includes:

  • 2  IMac’s and 1 PC in Edit Room 1
  • 6 Mac Mini's in the Digital Media Classroom
  • Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Express and Corel software
  • Photoshop
  • Soundtrack
  • LiveType

For projects that are not for cablecast on Channel 3, rental rates apply.

The Boston Free Radio studio includes three microphones, SD card recording, CD players, and access to email and the Internet during programs. Radio membership and training is required of all BFR program producers. For more information about Boston Free Radio, visit the BFR website.
